Mining Engineer,
training only in the field Born Ottawa,
Canada. Member of corps of rifle experts. Naturalized in
U.S.A. about 1878 Captain in U.S.
Army Began mining career
in British Columbia In 1889 was made
agent to the Indians at the Standing Rock Agency in North Dakota.
While there became staff correspondent of the Chicago Herald.
He made pen portraits of the principal tribal chiefs Operated mines in
Alaska, at the Japan-Flora group near Telluride, and the Stanley
Mines at Idaho Springs, Colorado. Was the principal organizer
of the Western Metals Company Had large mining
interests in Colorado. Came to Denver in 1901 Was one of the
organizers of the Royal League, a fraternal insurance association
from Presidents of the
Colorado Scientific Society
